Roald Dahl Day
The month of September has passed by in a flash and October is already here! We would like to share one of our most exciting days since we returned to school… Roald Dahl Day!
Roald Dahl is a really influential author whose works can be enjoyed by children of all ages and even some adults. The 13th of September was Roald Dahl’s birthday so we took this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful books that that he has brought into our lives.
To start the day, the children were invited to dress as a character from any Roald Dahl book. We had some Willy Wonkas, some Matilda’s, a BFG, an enormous crocodile, a Miss Trunchbull and many more, all supervised by Grandpa Joe (me!).
We completed a variety of Roald Dahl themed activities throughout the day and I was delighted to see how enthusiastic the children were about reading different books by the author. They were enthralled by our class novel, George’s Marvellous Medicine, and were able to discuss the characters and plot in great detail.
We studied and solved some Maths word problems which featured characters from the books that we had read and talked about.
We also studied a biography of Roald Dahl’s life and answered some questions to demonstrate what we had learnt.
This was a great way to start the year and myself and the children really enjoyed ourselves and learnt a lot about this wonderful author. We hope you enjoyed looking at our work and our costumes and look forward to sharing more this month.
