Year 8 Play: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The end of year play performance by Year 8 called on them to be versatile and motivated, as the continually changing covid scenario meant they had to rehearse their scenes in isolation from the rest of the school, rather than collaborating on a whole school event, as is normally the case. Originally, the plan this year had been to film the performance, and then upload it on the school website, in lieu of people being able to attend in person due to covid protocols. However, a ministerial decree only a few days before the planned recording meant that the students had to modify their performance for a live audience, which has several differences to a recorded version, not least with regards to scene changes and musical aspects.
The Year 8s were excellent in their adaptability and positivity. Special mention should be given to Giulio G, whose enthusiasm, helpfulness and reliability were much appreciated. Everyone played their part, and it was great to see our students revealing their creative sides in our drama lessons. Vicky was perfect as Puck, Giulio DM had wonderful comedy timing, and our Athenian lovers were at each other’s throats with worrying believability!
We should also thank our Year 7 fairies, who brought some essential elfin charm to a couple of scenes.
Below is their performance, kindly filmed by Mr Silani. Also included is a colour version of the progamme, should you wish to print one off for posterity.
