This article aims to introduce the reasons for developing curriculum in educational settings, considering what happened during the last century in particular in the UK and the possible needs of our western society for the future. It will also explore different ways to implement curriculum referring to schools as “learning communities”, to cooperation and team-teaching, to reflective teaching and the cubic curriculum.
A comparison of these different models will underline to what extent those approaches to teaching and learning can support curriculum development. Consequently, the responsibilities of head teachers, department leaders and teachers along with the difficulties and the reasons for possible tensions and conflicts are analyzed, intending to provide an opportunity to reflect on the possible actions to change or implement educational practises. This article will observe tensions and conflicts within the school hierarchy, however it is important to underline that curriculum change can have effects on parents, communities and pupils themselves. ....
